Western Morning News 17/07/2003 Proposals to create Costa del CarlyonALL Cornish people should view with dismay the proposed development for Carlyon Bay - the Costa del Carlyon. I admit that the area which served us so well in the Fifties and Sixties is now in a rundown state and in need of major overhaul. But to hand over to entrepreneurs the schemes for over 500 holiday homes and the ensuing infrastructure is completely against commonsense and regard for environment. Tourism is important for Cornwall, but we need quality not quantity. There is no reason why, like a phoenix from the ashes, the old leisure centre there could not be turned into a marine and sports centre area to serve the people of Restormel and Cornwall all the year round. The complex could be landscaped with palms and shrubs and parkland walkways, a safe area for sailing and swimming. There is a beautiful bay here, why desecrate it with concrete?
