June 2007: The Development Stalls Again
Following the announcement, in June 2007, of the outcome of the 2006 Public Inquiry, the Ampersand development at Carlyon Bay has entered a period of hiatus. There are currently no fresh plans under consideration by the local authority planning department.
However - watch this space - when the developer puts forward their next set of planning proposals, we will post the details of the relevant reference numbers here, along with advice on how to object.
Just to remind ourselves about why the Ampersand proposal for the Sea Wall and Beach re-charge were 'called in' for that 2006 public inquiry...
In a letter to A Lee, Planning Officer for the Ampersand Development, issued by The Government of the South West, it is stated;
"The First Secretary of State’s policy on call-ins is...to be very selective about calling in planning applications. S/He will, in general only take this step if planning issues of more than local interest are involved..s/he considers that the proposals may conflict with national policies on important matters."
CBW may have drawn attention to the issues, but the real reason the Ampersand proposals were called in by a higher authority is because the Secretary of State decided that that the proposals had impact and implications which reached beyond those considered by Restormel Borough Council's Planning department on a purely local level.
To find out more about why the Secretary of State decided to refuse Ampersand permission to build a new sea wall, have a look at the CBW News pages.
